Given the topic of our site, of course, we will not talk about classic glasses, not about glasses for working at a computer, and not about those that protect from sunlight. It will be about those eye protection products that are used in various construction works. To begin with, we note that in their appearance construction glasses are very different, while they differ quite a lot in price and quality, as well as in their purpose. This is the same purpose for ordinary glasses, and for construction glasses, as a rule, it is rather narrowly specialized.
Types of eye protection glasses
1. Goggles transparent closed type.
You can see them in the photo. They come in both direct and indirect ventilation. First of all, they are designed to protect the eyes from dust when working with a grinder (angle grinder), woodworking (protection from chips), painting, etc.
Depending on the modifications, they can be equipped with anti-fogging or ordinary glass. Although this is of course loudly said about glass, since it is made of polycarbonate. The body of this type of goggles is made of soft plastic.
Advantages and disadvantages of these goggles: Firstly, this is the price. Glasses of a similar design can cost from 50 rubles to more than 300 rubles. The most inexpensive ones are characterized by a rather rigid body, which does not fit snugly enough to the face and can leave a gap through which dust will enter. Also, the rigid body is very inconvenient because it cuts into the tissues of the face. Therefore, it is better to choose glasses with the softest case.
Direct ventilation also does not keep out dust very well, it is better to choose a model with indirect ventilation. If we talk about glass, then regardless of the price, they are all made of polycarbonate, which scratches over time, thereby reducing visibility. In any case, after a while the transparency of the glass will decrease so much that they will have to be changed.
2. Open glasses.
These glasses are not designed for dusty work, as they do not protect from dust almost completely. These goggles are designed for framing and carpentry work, as they only protect against straight-flying chips and small parts. These glasses are most similar to classic glasses, as they have glasses and temples. Glasses are also made of plexiglass, that is, hard plastic. Of the shortcomings, it is worth noting that the glass also scratches over time. The industry produces this type of glasses of various colors. From a practical point of view, in our opinion, the color of glass for glasses (yellow, red, colorless) does not matter, so it's just whoever likes it.
3. Glasses - a mask.
This type of eye protection glasses, in our opinion, is most convenient when working with a tool such as a grinder, especially if you are sawing stone, slate or GVL. They perfectly protect against dust, as the case fits well to the face without leaving gaps. This type of glasses comes with plastic glasses, which, as we mentioned earlier, lose their transparency over time due to scratches, but nothing can be done about it. The use of plastic glasses is a necessary measure, since the glass can break and damage the eyes if it is hit hard.
By the way, the strength of plastic glasses can vary greatly. The higher the strength, the greater the cost of these points. It ranges from 150 rubles to 1000 rubles. Expensive models allow you to protect even from fragments of a broken circle grinder. Although, in our opinion, overpaying 5-7 times more does not make much sense.
An angle grinder or grinder has special protection just for these purposes. In this regard, only small particles of the cutting disc and sawn material fly off into the glass, and the cheapest glasses are quite enough for this. Goggles - a mask are produced with indirect ventilation, which allows you to protect your eyes from a large amount of dust that occurs when cutting stone materials.
It is also worth mentioning such a function of glasses as anti-fogging. This is quite an important thing. All goggles, both goggles and goggles, can be equipped with both regular plastic glass and anti-fog glass. Those who have worked a lot in such glasses will definitely say - take it with anti-fog glasses and don’t think. Both on a hot day and in a cold period, condensation can form on the inner surface of the glasses, which significantly reduces visibility, so it is better to solve this problem in advance.
4. Mask - shield.
This type of eye protection certainly does not fall under the category of glasses, but is very close to them in terms of purpose. In appearance, this is a head mount in the form of a circle with an adjustment system, on which a convex piece of transparent plastic is fixed. This type of protection allows you to close not only your eyes from splinters and flying debris, but also protect the entire surface of the face, which is sometimes very convenient. The disadvantage of this protection is the gradual loss of transparency of the shield due to scratches, as well as the inconvenience of using it in a limited space, when you need to crawl up and file something. Often glasses in this case are much more convenient.
